Regional Feats for Greyhawk

This is an extension of the Greyhawk Regional Feats as presented in Dragon 315 & 319 in which I have adapted most of the regional/racial feats from the Forgotten Realms books to the Greyhawk regions.

If you notice any feats missing it is due to the fact that either I don't have access to the source or I couldn't find a good region to assign that feat to.

As you can tell this is a work in process. I am currently adding languages spoken in each region and plan on going back through the books to show where each feat can be found.

I think that people would find this very helpful, as there are just a ton of feats out there, and a ton of books they are scattered throughout. Perhaps parentheses with an acronym for the source after the feat. For example, "Eschew Materials (PHB)", or "Blood of Kord (DRG315)".

Cyrusalthantas,

Welcome to the boards. Nice post I second Cebrion's suggestion and you have noted that is your intention as well. If you get a chance visit us for the Thursday night chats look to your left for the link see the Greytalk Chat Now! (with Java). I always look forward to seeing new people with fresh ideas and elaborate on their GH ideas.

If you get a chance post in the welcome to Greyhawk forum.

Hey Cyrusalthantas, I like your approach and look forward to when you've added the sources. I was just thinking this morning about the LGJ Greyhawk feats (can't recall the particular issue) and whether they would be well interpreted in Pathfinder as Traits.

(Traits were introduced in a Pathfinder web supplement and expanded in their Advanced Players Guide. They're like "half-feats" in game mechanic power and intended to help further character customization for a particular campaign.)

Please let us know once you're ready to repost with source citations. (Maybe it'd be a good Canonfire Crier submission?)

Thanks mtg. I will definitely keep Canonfire updated as I proceed and will think of submitting to the Crier once the project is complete. I'm hoping to update my work by the end of August.

As for Pathfinder, I don't know if the regional feats would work as the only rules I've read is the public beta.

Militia is from the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting and Knifefighter is from the Players Guide to Faerun.

I figure that the regional thing is more of a suggestion than a hard and fast rule (yes, some would say that every rule is really just a suggestion to the DM, but anyway... Laughing ).

Mercenary Background: If you're starting with a 1st level PC with 0 XP, the PC should not be eligible; all that travelling, and not a single XP to their credit? An exception might be if they they did a lot of travelling with their parent(s) when young (parents get the kid's XPs for facing weather, illness, etc). In that case, it should be open to more than just those of a "mercenary" background; travelling merchants spring to mind. It could also be open to someone who never really went anyway, but did a ton of studying.

For the following, I use the social class rules which are from (IIRC) AD&D1 Unearthed Arcana and Dragon #70:

Mercantile Background: I'd say anyone whose parent (usally, the father) was a master level craftsman or a successful merchant (Lower-Middle Class or higher) is eligible for this one.

Well Read: Anyone who is Middle-Middle Class or higher can usually earn this one.

I just got D&D 3.5 Unearthed Arcana. Before now, I sometimes gave characters (both PC and NPC) a special "disability" (bad hearing, bad eyesight, inability ot swim, etc) in my D&D 3.5 campaign in exchange for an advantage ala AD&D Skills & Powers. It looks like this has been standardized in D&D 3.5 as "Flaws" (in exchange for feats).

1) What other books list Flaws for Feats?

2) Any regional flaws? Lacking official versions, anyone want to try coming up with their own? Laughing

This may help

I've found this resource to be of GREAT help while transferring my existing GH campaign into 3.5 edition. This is a link to the Living Greyhawk Campaign Sourcebook. Ignore the Living Greyhawk sections and stick with pages 1, 9-13, 25-58, and 62-71. INVALUABLE in my humble opinion. As was mentioned above the regional feats are indeed in Dragon Magazine issues # 315 & 319. Both can be had as PDF's for $4.95 each on Paizo.

Don't think I'm breaking any copyright laws. This was just the official rules for running those tournaments. Feel free to use the bolt from the blue to sufficiently slap me down if I've offended the copyright police. Or in lieu of that simply remove the link and look it up yourself from my description above. :D

Hope that helps people!

Hey there, James! Personally, I love using flaws too! There is the potential for abuse, especially if one is using Pathfinder, but, I think that it's a great idea. There was a series of columns in Dragon Magazine called "Class Acts" that sometimes included new flaws, and there was an article in issue #328 (February '05) titled "Nobody's Perfect" that had 24 new feats that were organized along racial lines. But, really, anyone could take them (as long as they met any prerequisites).

I think some of those would make really great regional stuff.

Oh, and for the OP, I *totally* prefer Pathfinder. You should *totally* go with it ... especially since they're doing the playtest for the new "Advanced Class Guide". The "Brawler" is awesome. It's like a monk, only without the mysticism and a whole lot more straight-fighter-styled! Smile

I'll have to take a look at that. I have read through the Pathfinder beta rules and have mined it for ideas. But currently I don't have the budget to get involved completely in another system and all of my recent work has been dedicated to 3.5. Also all of the people I've gamed with recently play 3.5 and don't want to make the switch.

Cyrusalthantas ... I think that you'd be surprised.
It's 90% the same. It's not really all that much of a difference in the systems. Granted, they combined a few skills, beefed up a few classes a little, and there's the odd thing or two that changed, but, as a whole system ... it's pretty much just 3.75, as some have called it.
Pathfinder and 3.5 aren't all that different. And not so different as 3.0 and 3.5, I don't think.

-Actually, I forgot about traits. "Illiteracy" has got to be the most useful one in the book. How did D&D3X campaigns get along without it? I extemporized by giving anyone who was illiterate 2 extra skill points, sort of like barbarians. UA made it one skill point, so now I get to fix as I go... Laughing
