N1 Against the Cult of the Reptile God (Pathfinder/Greyhawk)

Well, should I put up a journal here about my current Greyhawk campaign? It's play-by-post, so I can just put up a link here, and you can read it.

If not, I can summarize it here.

My personal opinion is that it is easier to read if you have summarized it. (See Kirt's style.) There are other threads that simply post the email conversations back and forth between the players and the DM, but they are usually more difficult to follow and much understanding, with respect to PC motivation, is lost on the reader. Of course, it requires much more of your time.

Chapter 1

The group (fully composed of the cast above) makes it into Orlane by the afternoon. It's a brisk summer day, and the group makes it a point to either visit the temple or stay at an inn. The group chooses, by a majority, to stay at an inn. Although Gothia makes a point to ask what gods they worship.

Vesica states that she doesn't know, but she guesses that the people of the town of Orlane must worship a god(dess) of the harvest. Or a god of protection, given how remote Orlane must be. Brenfine guesses it's either Saint Cuthbert or the Paladin diety Hieroneous. The group learns that they can stay at the Golden Grain Inn, or the Inn of the Slumbering Serpent.

Again by the majority, and guessing that the Inn of the Slumbering Serpent is a terrible name for an inn, they stay at the Golden Grain Inn. Innocently enough. Sea Ranger states that he wouldn't mind a good meal and a warm bed.

There is a young woman churning butter by the inn, and this attracts the attention of Vesica. The young woman states that she didn't know that Vesica was actually a story teller. Vesica then states what has happened to the town, and the young woman is a little evasive as to the state of Orlane. Meanwhile, Tallen goes into the Golden Grain Inn and orders a mug of dark beer. So does Chestman Barrelhouse.

The innkeeper of the Golden Grain Inn is a little more forthcoming of the town's problems. He states that crocodiles have been coming out of the swamp, and people have gone missing.

Gothia goes to the stable, where her warhorse is stabled for the night. The stable boy admits that he has no future in Orlane, and states that he is going to leave town to Gothia. Tallen Rynn watches the innkeeper closely to see if he's hiding something. While Krishka orders some tea.

Sea Ranger orders some stew and some beer. He also asks why people have gone missing and why crocodiles have been coming out of the swamp. Something Brenfine asked earlier. The innkeep states that a cult is the cause of the town's problems, but he also is evasive as to which cult it is. Chestman asks about the crocodiles, and looks forward to killing one and skinning it. The innkeep points the group to the mayor. All the while Vesica and Sea Ranger "choke" on their dinners. Both use choking as a ruse for other activities.

Meanwhile, Gothia asks the stable boy why he doesn't want to stay. He states that someone tried to kidnap his sister. Gothia was surprised at the news, and vows to help. The boy tells her it was troglodytes -- some sort of lizard man -- who tried to take his sister.

Sea Ranger reasonably asks how they can get ahold of the mayor. The innkeep tells them how. They are finally joined by Gothia who states that an evil cult is in the village and it was the cult who tried to take the stableboy's sister.

The others discuss what to do. Gothia says that the group needs to go to the mayor's residence and tell him about the cult. Of course, she doesn't know that the mayor knows. Vesica wonders what are troglodytes anyhow, having not encountered a monster like it. The others are about to go to the mayor, and Krishka admonishes the others to have patience.
