Yechwa leans her halberd against the wall next to her. Using the doorway as partial cover, she pulls out her bow.
Rook charges into the room to get close enough to hurtle her spear at Karavakos. Rook runs straight ahead to the base of the pyramid and chucks the spear while yelling back to Karavakos, “Agh lat!” The horned humanoid tries to dodge out of the way but the spear draws blood as it grazes his neck before arching back down out of sight (10, 103/113). The spear can be heard striking stone structure of the greater pyramid.
Gharash Vren follows Rook’s charge, passing the her as orcish warrioress lets fly her spear. Being the first to reach the pyramid, Gharash Vren begins the ascent.
Karavakos points at Rook and speaks an arcane language. A sudden blast, as if from an open furnace door, strikes Rook. Having been reaching for her shield already, she hastily pulls the magical shield in front of her in time to lessen the damage (7, 40/71).
Ergon tightens his grip on his holy sword and raises his shield, keeping his eyes locked on Karavakos. Ergon lowers his stance and charges forward at a determined job, shield ready to absorb whatever comes his way. His holy sword held firmly for the attack. Heading straight at the perched wizard, Ergon calls out tactics, “Try and flank him, I will come straight at him.”
Ergon reaches the pyramid and begins to climb, “Pholtus, grant me the courage to stand before this evil and give my companions the opening they need!”
Hearing Ergon’s words, Gharash Vren breaks to the left flank.
Yechwa draws back the string on her bow and lets her first arrow fly. It strikes his horn head hard shattering on impact. The blow damages the tiefling wizard (5, 98/113).
Rook reaches for her longsword, intent to enter melee.
Karavakos lets out a sickening deep laugh. A blast of cold, as if pulled from deep space, emits from his body in all directions; rolling down the dais and into the line of attackers.
Ergon’s holy sword fails to defeat the magical cold. Instinctively, Ergon raises his shield as frost coats it and his armor. The cold burns at his skin, chilling him (14, 15/35).
Rook, magic shield at the ready, is also able to cover up as best she can though the cold leaves her rime covered as well. Beneath her armor, her skin gets frostburn (14, 26/71).
Gharash Vren, having stowed his shield upon his back, turns and ducks against the blast as best he can. Being more badly injured than his companions, the frost covered warrior nearly falls (14, 1/81).
The blast of cold leaves the dais rime covered and slippery.
Undeterred, Ergon surges forward through the chaos, climbing to the second level of the dais and sure-footedly reaching Karavakos across the frost covered stone. His sword catches the light like a shard of judgement, “By the power of Pholtus, your darkness ends here!” he hollers as he advances. “May his light scour this place clean, and may we be the hands that deliver his juedgement!”
He raises his blade high, voice booming, “For Pholtus!” Ergon’s sword slams into Karavakos torso (12, 86/113). He is determined to be victorious or die beneath the light of his deity.
Rook, attaining the second level as well, moves to Karavakos right flank, cutting behind Ergon’s charge. While drawing her long sword, she slips but is able to retain her footing. She reaches Karavakos flank though he remains one level of the dais above her and Ergon.
Roodin Bakassad flies into the room and hovers in the northwest corner, analyzing the battle before him.
Gharash Vren has a perplexed look in his eyes. Though he wishes to save himself, he knows retreat will only result in his death in the pyramid. Seeing victory as his only salvation, the warrior presses the attack with the last of his might. Reaching the left flank, Gharash Vren remains on the second level of the dais and uses the long reach of the halberd to strike at the teifling mage.
His tenacity pays off. Bringing the hefty weapon down upon the mage severs his right leg mid-thigh (25, 22/57(103); hit point total adjusted for wound). Karavakos falls on the top level of the dais. Blood begins spraying from the severed artery. Karavakos screams in pain and anger.
At the same time, Yechwa takes careful aim and sends and arrow through the melee. It passes harmlessly by and shatters on the back wall. The ranger attempts a second shot but her bowstring snaps.
Yechwa drops her bow and charges forward with her halberd.
Ergon raises his holy sword towards the heavens and gives Gharash Vren an approving nod, “Nice job, Gharash Vren! Pholtus is looking down with favor upon you this day. May his lightr continue to guide your hand – and my our enemies learn to fear it!”
While the paladin is praising warrior, Karavakos is busy casting a spell. His body begins to lift off of the dais and the bluidh towers of light bend towards the mage as he rises. Electricity begins to spark more intensely off the blue columns of energy.
Gharash Vren steps back, being unable to take a shock. He moves quick and jumps down a level of the dais, “Thanks Ergon! Finish him!”
“For Pholtus and all that is good!” the paladin roars as he and Rook bring their swords down upon the mage. Ergon severs and arm and Rook removes the remaining leg.
Yechwa leaps upon the dais and buries the halberd into the mage’s chest as glowing missiles pound into Karavakos from the flying Roodin Bakassak.
As if Pholtus himself appeared into the room, a sudden blast of the whitest light erupts from energy towers. Everything is blown apart. The pyramid blocks and all the contents are blown into the greyness of the open space of the astral plane from whence you arrived at the pyramid.
With a sudden change of force, everything comes to a stop. The two points of black shadow pulses and grow larger. They begin sucking everything into their void. The entire pyramid and its occupants get sucked into the deepest blackness.
The group wakes in the clearing outside of Kroten where the gem encrusted rocks teleported them into the astral plane.
Each of the group finds themselves fully healed. It is daytime and the sun is shining.
Laying on the ground next to the party is the bodies of Jandre and Oswar Ascoban. They remain very dead.
