Clerical Spells

Is there anyone here who does not know that I'm a 2e guy? Shocked

I didn't think so. Laughing

So save me from a bunch of reading. How does a Cleric get his/her spells? This is what I mean:

Your Cleric just advanced and can now cast 4th level spells: How does your Cleric know what 4th level spells are "out there?" Confused

A Wizard finds Spell-books, gains spells through study at a Magic School, or perhaps with his/her Mentor. But how does your Cleric "know" that the spell Dimensional Anchor even exist? What about Imbue with Spell Ability? Confused

Does his/her God "magically" reveal the existence of these spells to him/her? Or is the method of spell acquisition left up to the DM? Confused

How does a 3.5 Cleric gain their "new" spells? Confused

That is how all clerics get their spells. When a cleric gains a new level of spiritual insight that has a new level of spells that goes along with it, their deity reveals the latest level of mysteries to them. Then they start a prayin'.

I see. Yes, that's a little different from 2nd Edition. Fair enough . . . just trying to "stay ahead" of my players. Wink

Thanks, Cebrion! Cool

Now for more 3.5 reading! Laughing

It is the same as in 2nd edition. When a cleric becomes 3rd level, 5th level, 7th level, etc. in 2E a new level of spells becomes available to them, instantly. There is nothing special to do, other than training if you require it for level advancement. Same in 1E for that matter. Additional 2E material offers up the idea that the more powerful spells that a cleric prays for are "brought" to them by intermediary servants of their deity, with the most powerful spells being granted directly by the deity.
