Old School Dungeons & Dragons: WoC’s Problem Child

as I searched for other things I ran across this interesting posting for all you Grognards out there.
http://boingboing.net/2013/05/06/old-school-dungeons-dragons.html

It has alot of elements that made me laugh, and others I had to nod with.
Thanks to Peter Bebergal for penning many things I have often thought.

There are a bit too many things in that article that are skewed or untrue for me to take much of any of it seriously at all. Rules inhibit role playing? Please. I don't know of any RPG that requires a player to roll a die to be able to speak/role play. Okay, maybe PARANOIA has a rule like that somewhere, but if it didn't I would wonder why it didn't. Laughing

lol true Ceb... but again wasn't offering it as a "guideline" to be dissected, more over a memory walk to be taken as a whole..
I think the evolution of the game has gone from ROLE play to ROLL play... and I think that is the heart of the article. My preference is to the former, my "re-birth" lists toward the latter, mostly due to the differences between 2e and 3.5e
My "hairling players" have discovered you can have a great game without 100 dice rolls in an evening.

Now some of the comments below the article simply made me shake my head.... Laughing

The ties to Traveler and BURP (had forgotten that one) made me reminisce.
